United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) releases report “Overview of Maritime Transport in 2020“

The document allows to track active trends in the development of maritime transport and trade. The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has demonstrated the global interdependence of states and served to develop new trends. The question was raised about the importance of maritime transport as a key sector for the implementation of supplies in pandemic conditions. The shipping sector needs to prepare for change and adapt to a new format of existence following the COVID-19.

The following programmatic measures were allocated to prepare for life after pandemic:

  1. Provide support to trade so that it can serve as a real basis for growth and development;
  2. Change globalization to ensure sustainability;
  3. Promote technology adoption and digitalization;
  4. Use data to track the situation and adoption programmatic measures;
  5. Provide flexibility in maritime transport systems;
